What do members do in the U.S.?
We do a lot of this:
(Sonja organizing and matching all the U.S. penpals with penpals in Ghana)
And some of this:
And even a little of this:
(Nick representing on a rainy day...)
In the U.S. Yonso Project members spend most of their time planning, organizing and executing their events and programs.
The planning phase of any project involves a lot of creativity and is usually pretty fun because you are designing your program or event. Its always fun to come up with great ideas and it can be very exciting!
Once the program or event is planned, it needs to be organized. This means contacting people, scheduling meetings and presentations, arranging for materials, and putting together presentation packages, etc.
Then the project needs to be executed. If the project is a big 1 day event, you may spend 90% of your time planning and organizing and very little actually executing the event. If the project is an ongoing program, you may spend 60% of your time planning and organizing and the rest doing workshops, meetings and presentations.
Each project is a different experience. Each member brings their own unique skills and interests into play when taking on a program and can walk away (or in many cases stay on) after the semester with a solid feeling of accomplishment and the knowledge that they have not only grown their own professional abilities, but also made a real and positive impact on the world around them.
